9 November | Foundling Museum | London | WC1N 1AZ
Venture Cinema and the Foundling Museum are pleased to bring you a special screening of The Duchess, the beautiful 2008 film depicting the life of late 18th-century English aristocrat Georgiana Cavendish, Duchess of Devonshire. The screening coincides with the Museum’s exhibition Ladies of Quality and Distinction, highlighting the hidden stories of women in the history of the Foundling Hospital, including the 21 duchesses who supported its establishment.
The Duchess of Devonshire, a bright, popular aristocrat, is trapped in a failed marriage and has to face personal conflicts - including living with her husband's mistress and falling passionately in love with a young politician.
The Foundling Museum explores the history of the Foundling Hospital, the UK’s first children’s charity and first public art gallery. They aim to inspire everyone to make a positive contribution to society, by celebrating the power of individuals and the arts to change lives.
Doors open at 6.30pm for a 7pm start. Spaces are limited so book your tickets in advance to avoid disappointment.
